Paulina Villarreal Joins Bloomington Chamber Singers for Duruflé’s Requiem
Dr. Paulina Villarreal joins the Bloomington Chamber Singers as mezzo-soprano soloist in Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem, conducted by Artistic Director Caio Lopes. The performance presents Duruflé’s 1947 masterpiece in its original chamber-orchestral version, a setting that draws on Gregorian chant while surrounding its ancient melodic language with the distinctive harmonies and colors of twentieth-century France.
Founded in 1970, the Bloomington Chamber Singers have been part of Bloomington’s musical life for more than five decades. The ensemble has a longstanding tradition of performing major choral-orchestral works while also exploring repertoire across styles, traditions, and cultures. Under Lopes’s direction, that tradition continues through programming that combines established masterworks with a broad and increasingly diverse repertoire.
